A Bit About Me
I work online and in-person.
I am an experienced integrative psychotherapeutic counsellor, working towards a psychotherapy qualification.
My foundational training is in Transactional Analysis (TA): TA works by looking at what stories an individual has told themselves as a child about how to be in the world; exploring how they came to those (unconscious) decisions, and what subsequent adult thoughts, feelings and behaviours stem from those historical beliefs.
As well as being an analyst of the mind, I strongly believe that what the body has to say is of equal importance; the body holds beliefs about the self, and the imprint of the person’s history are held in the muscles and fascia. If it seems appropriate, I can incorporate somatic elements into the therapy session. This is non-touch-based work.
I am trauma-informed and work with clients who have experienced both body and emotional trauma. I work with the client’s nervous system to create a holding environment that can allow for a deeper, felt sense of safety.
I believe that regulation of the nervous system is fundamental in creating a good foundation on which to build the therapeutic work, and I recognise that each person’s baseline for normal can be different. How can any change be possible if the body doesn’t feel safe. Creating that safety is paramount in being able to do good therapeutic work.
I am trained to support and coach ADHD clients, whether that is exploring the possibility of a diagnosis, or helping a client find tools to help them navigate the complexities of life as a neurodivergent person. Again, I believe it all start with recognition of the internal nervous system landscape.
About us
We would work together to decide on a contract: what it is that you would like to explore. It is two-person work. I am not there to tell you what to do, but rather to help you notice your patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviours and to sit alongside you, as we work out together how you made those decisions around how to be in the world, and why they may no longer be working for you.
We would also work co-creatively, noticing what patterns of behaviour come up in the room between us, as these are often a direct reflection of the relationship patterns likely to occur in your day-to-day life.
The aim of the therapy is to work towards a clearer sense of awareness, spontaneity and intimacy in your everyday life; a shift from living out those pre-programmed unconscious ways of being, into a deeper sense of making conscious, here-and-now choices.
If this sounds interesting to you, and you would like to know more, you are welcome to get in touch for a free 30-minute phone call. This is to ensure that we are a good fit for one another. The relationship is everything in therapy.
It is not easy to step forward into the unknown and explore something that can feel both challenging and daunting. By coming to therapy, you are recognising that need for change, and in taking that first step, are working towards something both meaningful and rewarding. I would like you to know that you will not be alone in it. As your therapist I will be alongside you, steadying and supporting you as you explore and grow.
Anyone can stay the same, it takes courage to change!
