A Bit About Me
I have been working as a drama and movement therapist for over 20 years; primarily in education, but also as a children and young people’s therapist for Women’s Aid.
My dramatherapy training is rooted in the Sesame approach, a gentle, non-confrontational way of working with imagination, play, story, improvisation and promoting conversation in children to enable them to unlock tools to explore what they are going through.
I have supported children and young people experiencing low self esteem, anxiety, bereavement, trauma, family separation, struggles around attending school and children with SEND including Autism, ADHD and learning differences.
I offer individual sessions for children. Sessions aim to build self esteem and self confidence, by creating a safe space where individuals are supported emotionally through talking, creativity and play. Children are offered a choice around how they feel like engaging in any particular session, whether that be through talking, using sensory materials, games, small objects, drama, movement, art, puppets or stories.
I am careful to work at an individual's pace, sometimes obliquely, sometimes more directly and always with the utmost respect for the child or young person.
My goal is to celebrate the child’s individuality to become the best version of themselves. I invite children and young people to laugh and to play, alongside the work of exploring the difficult issues they may be facing.
I also have extensive experience working in daycentres and in the NHS with adults with learning disabilities. Please enquire for more details in this area. I have an enhanced DBS check and update my safeguarding training regularly.
